How the Image Converter works
An image format determines how pixel data is stored and compressed. Converting between formats lets you trade off file size, quality, transparency, and compatibility — WebP and AVIF for small modern web images, PNG for lossless transparency, JPEG for universal photo support, ICO and BMP for legacy and Windows use cases.
Pictuary re-encodes your image at its original pixel dimensions — only the format changes. HEIC photos from an iPhone are decoded to whichever format you pick. EXIF metadata is stripped automatically and the original is deleted from our servers within 15 minutes. Converting to JPEG flattens transparency onto a white background, since JPEG has no alpha channel.
